The Messiah's Mom

When Grandma Alice went to Green Tree last year, I "stole" several of my Grandpa Bob's old prayer journals from their house. When I couldn't go back to sleep after David's 2 am feeding call this morning, I picked up one of those old journals to read. It happened to be a journal he started in December of 1998. He has many reflections written in it about Christmas, but, as a mom of young children, this really struck me...

"I truely wonder Lord what she (Mary) pondered in her heart. Was she amazed at what God had done to/ for her, did she wonder how this baby could be the Messiah, did she wonder why the Lord had chosen her for this role. Was she afraid she wasn't up to the task of being the Messiah's mother?"

Wow! I had never thought of it that way. Every day I face my own insecurities; am I the mother my children need or deserve. But Mary, she had the awesome job of raising our Savior. No pressure there, lol!

Lord, thank you for the awesome responsibility and tremendous pleasure of raising Eli, Ruby, and David. Thank you for the insight of my grandfather, 6 years after his death. Thank you for Jesus. Amen.

(Balloon) Restitution

Posted by Picasa

Ruby got this cute flower balloon on her teacher, Mrs. Millwood's 40th birthday. She love, love loved this balloon.
A day or two after receiving it, Eli asked politely if he could pop it. Ruby politely told him "no". This went back and forth several times until Eli though he'd be super sneaky and ask if he could "hug" her balloon. Of course, to this, she said "yes". Eli then proceeded to hug the balloon until it popped.

Ruby was hysterical!!! Eli knew immediately that what he did was wrong and that he wanted to make it right so... we took Eli and his wallet to the Paper Factory where he chose this new balloon for Ruby. It was a hit! AND Eli did not ask to "hug" this one!

Half a year, my whole heart

My baby is 6 months old today. Half a year-- I can barely believe it!

I wanted to put together the monthly photos I've been taking to show his growth and development. I SO love this age. Right now his new thing is to look at me, grab my face with both of his hands, and pull it towards him to "kiss" my nose. How sweet is that?

This little guy may only be half a year old, but he definately has my whole heart!

Thankful Thursday

It's Thanksgiving morning and my heart is filled with gratitude. I am thankful for...

1. finding out you can cook an 8 1/2 pound turkey breast in the crock pot!

2. finding the bottom of my laundry hamper yesterday!

3. having the opportunity to help with Ruby's preschool Thanksgiving feast (and for the front carrier that allowed Dave to stay happy through the whole thing)!

4. traditions... such as the annual reading of Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving!

5. Jason not having to work on Friday, as he has for the past 4 years!

6. finding out that an old favorite recipe, Peanut Butter Pancake, can be successfully adapted for my IC so that I can eat them again-- yum!

7. discovering that Ruby is just as in love with the Macy's parade as I am. That's my girl:)

Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a good night:)
